Series 26-27 of record group RG 80-27 consist of photographic negatives and prints relating to a variety of activities and persons of the Michigan Reformatory at Ionia, Michigan. The record group includes 2,595 still photographic negatives (ca. 1951, 1968-74), sizes 2 1/2x2 1/2 and 4x5, made by the institutional photographer as requested and for use in the Hill top news. The record group also includes 145 still photographic prints (1881, ca. 1924-27, 1953, 1959, ca. 1970), various sizes to 8x10, nine of the prints colored.

The Michigan Reformatory (also known at times as the Michigan State House of Corrections and Reformatory) was established by law in 1887 in Ionia, Michigan. It was closed on December 31, 2001.
